Twisted Judge Not
The Bible is full of wisdom. People love to quote their favorite verses to encourage and inspire each other—but sometimes, those verses get taken out of context. What happens when the most important message of all gets Twisted?

In this four-week message series starting this Sunday, we will cover four of the most misused verses in the Bible. Learn the context of the verses, what they really mean, and how to find the richness God actually meant to show us through them. Verses in this series include “for I know the plans I have for you…” in Jeremiah 29:11, “ask anything in my name” in John 14:14, and others.

Series: Twisted
Message: Judge Not
Text: Matthew 7:1-2

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Mathew 7:1-2

HOW DO YOU TRANSLATE THE BIBLE?

1. Understand the context.
2. Interpret scriptures with other scriptures.
3. Apply what you learn.

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” Matthew 1:3-5

FOUR THINGS THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT JUDGING:

1. WE SHOULD NEVER JUDGE SUPERFICIALLY

“Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.” John 7:24

We’re not going to judge people from a distance.
We’re going to give people the benefit of the doubt.
We’re going to believe the best.
We’re not going to judge by mere appearances.

2. WE SHOULD NEVER JUDGE HYPOCRITICALLY

“You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things… 4 Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?” Romans 2:1, 4 NLT

The place where you issue your harshest judgement often reveals your deepest weakness.

3. WE NEVER HOLD NON-CHRISTIANS TO CHRISTIAN STANDARDS

What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13 God will judge those outside. 1 Corinthians 5:12-13

We are not to judge non-Christians – God does that, but we are to judge believers.

You do not have to believe in order to belong.

4. ALWAYS HELP RESTORE FALLEN BELIEVERS

Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. 2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:1-2

When another Christian gets in trouble, restore them.

Matthew 7:1-2
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
