Palm Sunday – A Better Bridge

Calvary Grace Assembly of God

==========
Palm Sunday – A Better Bridge
A bridge is something built to span a gap: a river, or a valley.
In Hebrews, Jesus is pictured as a better priest than the Jewish priests in the line of Aaron.
That’s actually what Jesus, our priest—He is a bridge to God
==========

Hebrews 7:18-28
The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God. And it was not without an oath! Others became priests without any oath, but he became a priest with an oath when God said to him: “The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: ‘You are a priest forever.’ ” Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantor of a better covenant. Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. For the law appoints as high priests men in all their weakness; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever.

A bridge is something built to span a gap: a river, or a valley.
That’s what Jesus, our priest is—He is a bridge to God.

I. I NEED A BRIDGE BECAUSE MY SIN HAS SEPARATED ME FROM
GOD

The wages of sin is death.

II. THE OLD BRIDGE (THE LAW) WAS WORTHLESS

A. It was congested with hundreds of rules

B. The cost of the toll was too high

C. It never reached the destination

III. THE NEW BRIDGE (JESUS) IS WONDERFUL!

A. There is only one rule on this bridge: Love

B. Our toll has already been paid—in full

C. This bridge is completely safe because it leads to God

On this Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week, will you take advantage of this bridge and hear and believe for salvation?

Romans 3:23
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Hebrews 10:1, Hebrews 10:3-4
The old system under the law of Moses was only a shadow, a dim preview of the good things to come, not the good things themselves. The sacrifices under that system were repeated again and again, year after year, but they were never able to provide perfect cleansing for those who came to worship.

But instead, those sacrifices actually reminded them of their sins year after year. For it is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

John 14:6
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 1:12
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

John 10:17-18
The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”
