Knowing God’s will starts with knowing God’s heart.
- God’s Sovereign Will
- God’s Moral Will
- God’s Permissive Will
- God’s Personal Will
1. God’s Sovereign Will: God’s unstoppable, unchangeable plan that directs all things toward His purpose.
Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass … Isaiah 46:10 NLT
Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21 NIV
- God’s Moral Will: Timeless truths revealed in His Word for how we live.
God’s will is for you to be holy …
1 Thessalonians 4:3 NLT
hagios: set apart, different, sacred, dedicated to God
You can’t walk in God’s will if you’re disobeying His Word.
- God’s Permissive Will: The freedom God gives us to make choices, even when they’re not perfect.
… You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is beneficial. 1 Corinthians 10:23 NLT
- God’s Personal Will: God’s unique, specific calling for you.
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 NIV
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
Psalm 32:8 NIV
We overcomplicate God’s will and underestimate God’s goodness.
- We trust God’s sovereign will.
- We obey God’s moral will.
- We accept God’s permissive will.
- We walk in God’s personal will.
Are you worried about missing God’s will?
This is what God says to you:
I will instruct you. I will teach you.
I will counsel you. My loving eye is on you.
God’s not playing games with your future.
He’s not holding back on His will for your life.
God’s purpose is greater than your past.
His plan is bigger than your mistakes.
Because you know His heart, you can walk in His will.
