Hebrews 4:12
“For the WORD OF GOD is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
In Hebrews Chapter 4, God is calling for us to rest spiritually in Him. We can’t set ourselves on the Holy Word and obey God’s plan for our lives if we don’t take a rest from our daily routines.
Sharper Than Any Two-Edged Sword Points:
1. The surest way to get into the presence of God is to get into the Word of God. It changes the way we think, the way we feel, the way we live, and the way we love.
2. If you want a Word from God, you MUST get into God’s Word.
3. Getting into God’s Word is more than just reading it. Reading is taking the first bite.
4. The second step is meditation: chewing on the words and phrases. The third step is prayer: savoring the Word. The fourth step: Contemplation – Digesting the Word and absorbing its nutrients. That’s how the Word gets in our heart.
5. “Two-edged” is taken from the Greek word distomos.
Di: two and Stomos: mouth.
When these two words are compounded into one (distomos), they describe something that is two-mouthed! The Bible comes from mouth of God – thus it’s His Word – and once we fully digest it and its nutrients, God uses us to speak it from our mouth to those around us to display His love, encourage them and confirm His plan for their life.
That is the 2-mouthed effect!
