bLESSED fAMILIES-bROKEN fAMILIES

Just in time for the Thanksgiving season, join us starting November 3rd for a five-part series as we get back to a place of slowing down, enjoying the people around us, and learning how to live in God’s blessings for our families. Every family is different—with their own wins, struggles, and personalities. But what’s the secret to having a truly happy home life? In this series, Pastor Tom Cogle talks about God’s design for families and how to live in His blessing for your family. On the last Sunday of the series, December 1, we will give away a 6 foot table with six chairs, complete with centerpiece consisting of a runner and Fall decor. (Entries can be made each week, giving each person, age 21 and over, up to five chances to win.) Don’t miss one of these exciting Sundays: November 3 – December 1!

Series: Blessed Families
Message: The Broken Family
Text: Genesis 3:1-13, 21

Pastor Tom Cogle

Every person has come from a broken family. The spiritual characteristics and genetic tendencies from Adam and Eve have been passed on to us through the curse of the Fall. But Jesus came to redeem us from the curse!
Three things entered the world through sin:
1. Shame
Immediately after the Fall, Adam and Eve recognized they were naked and hid from God and from themselves. We often try to cover our own shame. But God wants to cover us by clothing us in His righteousness and salvation.
2. Blame
We always want to place the blame on someone. Either it is not my fault, or it is always my fault. To blame is to accuse. In Revelation 12:10, Satan is called “the accuser of our brethren.” When we accuse others, we are joining forces with the enemy and acting like Satan in that moment.
3. Fame
We all have insecurities in our lives that cry out for people to give recognition to us. Adam separated himself from Eve and placed a label on her. Since then, all of humanity has wrestled with and rebelled against the label placed on them, fighting for individualism. The highest calling on our lives is to be children of God.

As we conclude, remember the following:
•Whether we were brought up in strong believing families or not, we all are affected by the things allowed into the world as a result of the curse.
•The only thing that can cover our shame is the blood of Jesus, which He has poured out for us.
•God wants to bless families and see them walk in freedom under His covering.
