Memorial Day: Hopeful Memory

The loss of memory is a sad thing. It cuts us off from days gone by. It strips away the treasured residue of past experience. It erases our personal history and leaves us unaccountably blank pages. Sometimes we forget out of neglect. We can act as if the present is all that matters. All throughout scripture we see the importance of remembrance. Forgetting can be a spiritual danger.

The Importance of Remembering

The loss of memory is a sad thing. It cuts us off from days gone by. It strips away the treasured residue of past experience. It erases our personal history and leaves us unaccountably blank pages.
Sometimes we forget out of neglect. We can act as if the present is all that matters.

All throughout scripture we see the importance of remembrance:
1.The 12 stones on the bank of the Jordan River
2.The Rainbow in Genesis 9
3.The Feast of Passover
4.The Lord’s Supper

Psalms 105:5 Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced

The Danger of Forgetting
Forgetting the source of our blessings will make it very easy for us to begin believing that we can make our own way without God.

A HOPEFUL MEMORY will not drag us into the past but thrust us into the future God has for us.
